How to Easily Make Cold Brew at Home

What is Cold Brew?
Most people are familiar with cold brew, but for those who aren't, here’s a quick rundown. Cold brew is a coffee brewing method that uses immersion. You simply combine coarsely ground coffee with water, let it steep in the fridge for 8-12 hours (or longer, depending on your taste), and you’re done!

While it takes time, it’s one of the simplest ways to brew coffee. The best part? You can set it up before bed and wake up to a refreshing cold brew in the morning.

When Should You Drink Cold Brew?
I love drinking cold brew in the summer—it’s cold, smooth, and perfect for hot days. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile. You can get creative with recipes like Chocolate Mint Cold Brew, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Shirley Temple Cold Brew, Cinnamon Honey Cold Brew, Flying Bee Cold Brew, Creamy Non-Dairy Cold Brew, Sea Salt Coffee, and more.

Best Time to Make Cold Brew
The best time to make cold brew is when you have leftover coffee beans, especially those that have been aging for over two months or unfinished bags. Instead of letting those beans go to waste, you can turn them into a delicious cold beverage. Even though the coffee may start to fade, cold brewing will still bring out a nice flavor with less acidity and a rounded sweetness. Plus, when served over ice, it’s beautifully refreshing.

This is how we brew our cold brew at Newbery Street Coffee Roasters. In this recipe, we use Mae Kha Jan coffee, which is the best coffee in our collection for cold brew. Mae Kha Jan is from Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. It’s an amazing coffee with a strong dark chocolate flavor and beautiful cherry notes.
