This naturally processed coffee from Mewa Village is produced by Alo Coffee at their Gemechu Station and showcases the lively yet delicate character of Ethiopian coffee. In Nensebo, Alo Coffee works closely with smallholder farmers, carefully selecting ripe cherries and using thoughtful natural processing to highlight the unique personality of each village lot. Grown at elevations above 2,100 meters, the cherries are slowly sun-dried whole on raised beds, allowing fruit sugars and aromas to develop gently. The cup is clean and sweet with bright citrus notes and a tea-like feel, becoming juicier as it cools, with soft blueberry notes lingering in the finish. Balanced and elegant, this coffee is a beautiful reflection of Nensebo and Alo Coffee’s dedication to quality and transparency.
If you are new to Alo Coffee, their story is just as special as the coffee itself. Alo Village is home to the company’s processing headquarters, where nearby farmers bring their cherries for careful post-harvest processing. Located at elevations as high as 2,400 meters above sea level, the area offers ideal conditions for producing exceptional coffee. Alo Coffee was founded by Tamiru and his wife, Messi, who share a passion for showing the world the true potential of Sidama coffees. Before starting Alo, Tamiru spent years in the coffee industry after working as a university teacher and electrical engineer. When Ethiopia hosted its first Cup of Excellence competition in 2020, it opened new opportunities for producers to gain global recognition. Just one year later, Alo’s very first submission, a beautifully processed lot from their home village of Alo in Bensa, won first place. This achievement confirmed their belief that with care, patience, and intention, Sidama coffees can truly stand among the world’s finest.
